Research is showing that isn’t true. This generation writes more than any other and whether it is text-based writing or formal writing, it is still writing. And writing begets writing. Interestingly, they also read more, particularly if you expand the concept of reading to include online content rather than just books in print."<br /><br />I tend to agree with you that a lot of writing is tweets and texts, but also when I look at my daughter and the work she has to do (for example recently she completed a 4,000 word extended essay for her IB diploma) I see a lot more in-depth writing going on than when I was her age. When I look at the books she is reading for her IB diploma history course, too, I see her reading the sorts of books I only read at university. In my experience, just looking at my own Net Generation children, I would have to agree that they are both reading more and writing more than when I was their age.<br /><br />As for blogging - well recently I tried to put all of last year's blog posts into a book - it is over 700 pages long. I would never have thought that I'd be capable of writing anything like this a few years ago, so it just shows how blogging a couple of times a week really adds up to a lot of writing.Maggie Hos-McGranehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06906722339671067160noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6040524831337878007.post-9317674056866598132012-01-15T06:02:48.407+05:302012-01-15T06:02:48.407+05:30Hi Maggie,

I know they're reading and writing 140 character tweets and texts but how many are reading full length books and writing anything as long as even a blog post?Robin Brownehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10437881569701119100noreply@blogger.com
