A wake-up call for the status quo

You can't wait for success, you have to kick start it - Michael Fullan

I've read a lot recently about how education needs to change so that students can be successful in the 21st century, but it's equally true that teachers need to change to be successful too.  There's no point in just planning opportunities for our students to develop 21st century skills - teachers also need to be experiencing and then modeling what we want the students to be able to do.  Teachers as well as students need to be given opportunities for collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, new ways of communicating and so on.  If teachers are to become facilitators of learning, they must be empowered to be learners themselves.  The culture of schools needs to change and it needs to change now so that schools become "laboratories of innovation".
